Fefu and Her Friends
DysFUNctional Theater
Theater, 90 minutes
Philly Fringe
Insanity, violence, sexual frustration, repressed lesbian desire. Follow the lives of eight women, room to room, through house and garden in 1930s New England. Evocative monologues and interaction between members of the all-female cast reveal the unpleasant decay beneath life’s gentle façades. Absurd, insightful, honest, engaging, disturbing, outrageous, hilarious.
Ruchama Bilenky is an actress, musician, and certified yoga instructor. She is the daughter of renowned bicycle frame-builder Stephen Bilenky. When she was just 18 years old, she founded DysFUNctional Theatre with the mission of bringing obscure, female-oriented works to the Philadelphia stage. Past productions have included The White Whore and the Bit Player by Tom Eyen and Alchemy of Desire/Deadman's Blues by Caridad Svich, as well as Sam Shepard & Patti Smith’s CowboyMouth.
Fefu and Her Friends is directed by Allison Garrett. The cast features Ruchama Bilenky, Jennifer Huttenberger, Gina Martino, Gina Martinelli, Jana Nogowski, Kate Black-Regan, and Gillienne Nadeau. Purchasing currently unavailable. |
