Johnny Showcase and the Lefty Lucy Cabaret is the brainchild of Philadelphia actor-musician David Sweeny who acts, writes, produces, and stars as a deadpan, self-proclaimed "Top-Shelf Crooner" from Rhode Island. It is a throwback to both old Italian nightclub singers and flamboyant rock/soul singers like Prince. Over the last two years, the cabaret has grown from ragamuffin sideshow to an underground sensation. “This upstart crew is crafting some of the smartest, most daring and fly-down-finger-up funny cabaret in Philly,” says James Sugg of Pig Iron Theatre Company. The Cabaret has performed at World Café Live, Connie’s Ric Rac, Johnny Brenda’s, Painted Bride, Fergie’s Pub, Society Hill Playhouse, and LaMama Etc. Purr, Pull, Reign is a collaboration with Philly's up and coming experimental director Adrienne Mackey.
