During 2011 and 2012 the LAB is host to an innovative project that centers on elevating the public discourse of dance in Philadelphia.
thINKingDANCE was started to catalyze conversation about dance and to develop the skills of dance writers in our area. The year-long training includes workshops with professional visiting dance writers including Wendy Perron, Elizabeth Zimmer and Deborah Jowitt among many others. Monthly peer-critique sessions convened at the LAB focus on in-depth editor/writer dialogue. We encourage you to read the array of articles over the next year on the thINKingDANCE website which allows you to contribute your thoughts through a Public Square feature. Help us draw deeper and more expansive attention to Philadelphia’s robust and diverse dance community.

The Live Arts Brewery (LAB) is located at 919 North 5th Street in the Northern Liberties neighborhood of Philadelphia. The LAB is a program for research and development launched in 2009 by the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival. It is the goal of the LAB to provide opportunities for artists to explore, ruminate and discuss processes relevant to the evolution and creation of dance, theater and cross-genre live performance work. Workshop showings, lectures and demonstrations, master classes and community gatherings are a part of ongoing LAB programming.
thINKingDANCE is supported by the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage through Dance Advance.
